Amplify the branding that Budweiser received in Minneapolis from sponsoring the Home Run Derby. (The All Star Game was to be played to in Minneapolis.)
Star Tribune hosted a Home Run Derby contest at the Pourhouse during All Star week. To promote that event, we built a special “Home Run Derby game” that allowed users to play a Home Run Derby game on our site.
The game generated a high interaction rate of 12 percent. Users played the game for over 30 seconds.
Users could play the game within the display ad. Early on, we determined that the game was too difficult. Since we wanted a positive brand experience, if a player was struggling after 3 pitches, the game was made easier.
