OBJECTIVE: Sell tickets to Chanhassen Dinner theaters production of Mary Poppins. They wanted us to extend the use of their television ad.
STRATEGY AND CONCEPT: We prefer to not simply insert a client’s commercial into a digital ad. Most of the time, the impact of the commercial becomes diminished when is drawn into a display ad and because, in many cases, sound has to be initiated by the user.
My direction was to focus on their other assets. I wanted to use animation to replicate the commercial. I considered hiring an illustrator to reproduce the skyline with more detail. But my design team thought they could use a parallax effect with the client’s existing assets.
The end result is shown, and as the designer describes it, is “simple but mesmerizing.”
